Sandhill Crane Wildlife Refuge Finder

The topic for my project is looking at a good area for a Sandhill Crane wildlife refuge. This is important because with the population of the world getting larger people are now moving to areas that were previously unpopulated areas. Finding areas that migrating birds, like Sandhill cranes, can help State and Local Governments choose areas that will be put aside as a refuge, so that no future development will be done in these areas....

A Hydrologic Analysis of Pollutant Flow into Lake Michigan

The purpose of this reverse analytical analysis was to trace flow paths from known polluter facilities to watershed exit points of Lake Michigan. AbbVie Pharmaceuticals in Pleasant Prairie, WI, and Rust-Oleum Paints in North Chicago, IL, are the companies featured. DEM raster images were attained areas containing both companies. The DEMs were then processed using the ESRI ArcPro platform. For each DEM, a hydrological toolset and slope analysis were applied.
My name is Raster Based GIS Student, and I am currently working as an independent contractor for Front Range Community College's Jamie Hoover, where I recently completed a GIS Certificate program. My plan is to formally graduate next Fall and continue my education with a few advanced GIS courses that are not needed for the credential, such as GIS305 – Programming for GIS and GIS412 – Photogrammetry and Lidar, and GIS260- GIS Survey I. Originally, I am from Lake Bluff, Illinois which is also the home state of my Alma Mater, University of Illinois Champaign- Urbana where I received a degree in biological sciences. I have a mathematical, scientific, and highly creative mindset. My biology-based passion are ecology, conservation, mycology and etymology. In my daily life, I love to stay active and creative.

Spatial Analysis on New Water Well Locations in Nebraska

The world is changing as we know it which influences the weather. One of these weather changes is increasing dry seasons which can lead to droughts. Droughts cause crops to die out due to insufficient water and that insufficient water also causes a risk for people as well. My GIS project is a spatial analysis on the state of Nebraska to determine areas/counties that need a water source for easier access to farmlands and cities/towns...

I am a student working part time as a mailroom clerk. I have a bachelor’s degree in engineering physics from The University of Colorado Boulder. I am enrolled at FRCC in the GIS program to get the GIS certificate. I am in the final semester to acquire the GIS certificate. I have no previous GIS experience and taking these classes has really shown me the magic and effort that goes into different GIS projects. I do not have a set goal, but I am hoping to get a career working on hydrology.

Native Bee Habitat in Denver County

Many people are aware of the decline in bee populations, but often it is only the European honeybee that people are familiar with. Colorado has the 5th most bee diversity of any U.S. state and is home to approximately 950 bee species. These bees have a wide range of appearance and behavior; the average person may not be able to identify many of these species as bees. T

Public Transportation Suitability Analysis for Denver, Colorado

My project is a suitability analysis that shows locations within the Denver Metro area that are best suited for different types of public transportation. According to Denver RTD, about 75%of commuters in Denver drive to work alone and only about 4% take public transit. I wanted to find out why the proportion of people taking public transit is so low. My map has pixels that are each the size of 1 square mile...

Schools near oil & gas flowlines in Weld County, Colorado

It is imperative that the safety of the public be considered when building oil and gas infrastructure so that we can reduce injury and death by oil and gas accidents. This project identifies Weld County schools at risk of experiencing an explosion from oil and gas flowlines, and assesses the ability of fire department personnel to arrive on the scene within the critical time period for survival. Project, clip, feature class to feature class, spatial join, generate origin-destination links, and create service area tools were used.

My name is Raster Based GIS Student. I have a B.S. in Conservation Biology and recently finished a certificate in Wildlife at FRCC. I am currently pursuing a certificate in Natural Resources GIS. This is the last course needed to finish my program. I have completed a 6-month internship with Apollo Mapping. My task was to help identify satellite imagery for clients based on their specifications. GIS 210 is the 3rd GIS course I have taken in the field. I currently work for a union. I plan to continue my nascent career in the nonprofit world. In the future, I may consider venturing back into the wildlife field where I may utilize my GIS knowledge. I want to be able to continue work that benefits people, like supporting workers organizing for their rights or contributing to scientific research.
